LEESBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team open the 2025 season on Friday night at the Trials of Miles Opening Night hosted by Georgetown. The Blue Jays placed third in a field of three with 51 points; the host Hoyas grabbed the top spot in the team scoring with 24 points, while George Washington edged Johns Hopkins for second place with 45 points in the 6K season-opener for all three teams.

Georgetown had the first three runners cross and GW added the fourth-place finisher, but Johns Hopkins'
Matthew Kelly crossed in 18:25.1 to lead a run of five Blue Jay finishers between fifth and 14
th-place.

Among the scoring Blue Jays, Kelly was followed by sophomore
Dane Spahr (18:40.0) and freshman
Tyson Bhalla (18:40.4), who added top-10 finishes of their own.

Paced by Spahr and Bhalla, Johns Hopkins' second through fifth finishers all crossed the line within less than eight seconds of each other as juniors
Nash Minor (18:44) and
Kenny Wanlass (18:47.7) weren't far off the pace and finished in 13
th and 14
th place, respectively.

Johns Hopkins, which was ranked fourth in the USTFCCCA Division III Preseason Poll, will return to action on Friday, September 12 when the Blue Jays travel to Virginia to compete in the University of Virginia Invitational.
