LEESBURG, VA – The fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's cross country team opened the 2025 season in impressive fashion as the Blue Jays placed first in a field of four at the Trials of Miles Opening Night hosted by Georgetown. The Division III-Blue Jays totaled 42 points to edge local Division I rivals Maryland (46), George Washington (49) and the host Hoyas (99).

Johns Hopkins got a second-place finish from freshman
Mia Kotler, who covered the course in 17:37.6 to easily outpace Georgetown's Charlotte Bell, who crossed in 17:49.9 to finish third.

In addition to Kotler, the Blue Jays got top-10 finishes from sophomore
Storrie Kulynych-Irvin (5
th / 18:01.0) and
Natalie Boquist (8
th / 18:16.8) to grab a narrow lead on Maryland, which had the individual winner along with the seventh and 10
th-place finishers.

After Maryland put itself in a position to win by grabbing the 12
th-place finisher, the Blue Jays secured the win on the strength of 13
th and 14
th-place finishes, respectively, from sophomores
Sydney Shock (18:25.4) and
Elena Blodnikar (18:29.0), who rounded out Johns Hopkins' five scoring finishers.

Freshman
Ani Wedemeyer rounded out Hopkins' top-15 finishers as she finished less than two seconds behind Blodnikar to give the Blue Jays six of the top 15 on the night.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Friday, September 12 when the Blue Jays travel to Virginia to compete in the University of Virginia Invitational.
