Johns Hopkins Rallies to Top #2 Salisbury, 3-2

BALTIMORE, MD – Grace Waldeck scored the game-winner with 59.6 seconds remaining to complete the comeback as sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins beat second-ranked Salisbury, 3-2, Wednesday night at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays improve to 3-1 on the season and hand the Sea Gulls (3-1) their first loss.

Hopkins found itself trailing by a goal twice, and twice the Blue Jays answered. JHU then grabbed its first lead of the game when on a restart Jenna Halpin slipped the ball forward to Waldeck. She split a pair of defenders and slotted a hard shot under Kelly Davis to put the Jays up 3-2.

Salisbury struck first when Alex Kupper tipped in a long hit from Caroline Pusey at the back post with 3:05 left in the first quarter. Hopkins answered early in the second as Zoey Bennett fired home the rebound after a Sea Gulls' defensive save.

The teams then combined for two goals in just 80 seconds early in the third quarter. Salisbury once again grabbed the lead after McKenna Horner sent a long ball along the endline to Kupper on the right post and she redirected it in at 33:23. The was short-lived as the Blue Jays capitalized on a corner at 34:43. Caeli Robinson fired a low shot off the insert and Megan Chang tipped it around a defender and in.

The teams finished even in shots (12-12) while the Blue Jays had a 12-7 advantage in corners. Aubrey Kilgore made five saves in three quarters of action while Jessica Lapidus had one in one quarter. Davis tallied four saves for the Sea Gulls while getting defensive saves from Regan Worley and Pusey.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 13 at 19th-ranked TCNJ. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.

Notes: Hopkins is now 5-2 against Salisbury in the last seven meetings • Eight of the last 10 meetings have been decided by just one goal.
