CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's cross country team competed Friday morning at the Virginia Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. The Blue Jays placed third in a field of 10, tallying 77 points to finish behind the meet hosts, Division I 20
th-ranked Virginia, who scored 19 points in the 5K race, and William & Mary who scored 65 points.
The Cavaliers claimed five of the top six individual spots, but
Mia Kotler led the charge for the Blue Jays as the fastest freshman in the field, clocking in at 17:16 to finish seventh overall. Kotler's efforts led a pack of four Hopkins runners who finished among the top-25.
Among the scoring Blue Jays – all non-seniors – sophomore
Carter Brotherton finished just outside of the top-10 with an 11
th-place finish (17:39.4), while junior
Bella Stenhouse crossed in 17:52.4, placing 15
th. Sophomore
Storrie Kulynych-Irvin followed behind, rounding out the Blue Jays' top-25 finishes with a 23
rd-place finish in 18:08.2.
Senior
Eleni Alvarez secured the final scoring spot with a 28
rd-place finish in 18:16.3.
Johns Hopkins, which was ranked fifth in the USTFCCCA Division III Preseason Poll, will return to action on Friday, October 3 when the Blue Jays travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to compete in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh.
