Johns Hopkins and Swarthmore Tie, 2-2, in Centennial Opener

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins and Swarthmore finished in a 2-2 tie in both teams' Centennial Conference opener Saturday at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays are now 2-3-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference, while the Garnet are 3-1-3 and 0-0-1.

Hopkins struck twice in the game's opening seven minutes to grab an early 2-0 lead. Arnav Patel got the Blue Jays on the board just 4:29 into the game. Connor Wilkes played the ball down to Brendan Listzwan on the endline. He settled the ball and then dropped it back to Patel on the six-yard box, who chipped a left-footed shot over the goalie.

The Blue Jays pushed their lead to two just two minutes and 22 seconds later off the foot of Listzwan. Alex Gardner sent a long ball down the right sideline that Paul Sapilewski ran onto. He took one touch and then centered the ball to Listzwan, who one-timed it into the center of the goal.

Swarthmore made it a 2-1 game in the 25th minute after forcing a turnover deep. Len Yamabe blocked a clearing attempt and then dropped a pass back to Shlok Kaul, who scored from 10 yards out. The Garnet then drew level in the 77th minute. Kaden Cho took a pass from Kaul and chipped into the box, where Toshiro Kenney headed it to the back post.

Hopkins finished with a 10-7 edge in shots and a 3-2 edge in corners. John Ghanem notched four saves for the Blue Jays while Colin Crowe also had four for the Garnet.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday as the Blue Jays hit the road for the first time in 14 days. JHU will visit Widener for a 7:00 pm non-conference contest.
