PROVIDENCE, RI – Alec Baker scored with just 19 seconds remaining to lift Johns Hopkins to a 10-9 win over MIT on Saturday at the Bruno Invite. The seventh-ranked Blue Jays push their record to 9-1 on the season while the eighth-ranked Engineers slip to 4-6.
 
MIT called timeout with 33 seconds remaining and the game tied at nine. With 19 seconds left and the Engineer goalie out of the cage near the mid-line, MIT was called for an offensive foul. Baker took advantage with a quick restart and lofted a shot into the open cage.  
 
Adam Ivatorov scored the game's first two goals to give MIT an early 2-0 lead. Andrew Lee got Hopkins on the board with 3:26 to play in the first and spark a 4-0 Blue Jay run. Quint Steffey capped the run with just 18 ticks on the clock to put JHU up 4-2. MIT responded with a 3-1 second quarter to make it a 5-5 game at the half.
 
The Blue Jays turned the table in the third quarter, outscoring the Engineers 4-1, to grab a 9-6 lead. MIT battled back, scoring three unanswered to tie the game at nine with 2:44 to play in the game. The score remained that way until Baker's shot from more than half-way across the pool. MIT had one last chance in the final 19 seconds, but Kunal Rajahyax hit the post and Hopkins controlled the rebound to end the game.
 
Lee and Max Blecher led the Blue Jays with three goals each while Mason Hofmann had a team-best two assists. Baker had an assist to go with the game-winning goal, along with two drawn ejections, two steals and a block. Luke Mendelsohn also had a two-point (1g, 1a) game as well as two steals and a block. Chris Poisler made 14 saves and had a steal to earn the win.
 
Hopkins closes out a three-game day against Connecticut College at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
