PROVIDENCE, RI – Johns Hopkins outscored Conn College, 11-3, over the final 18 minutes as the Blue Jays beat the Camels, 18-10, Saturday night. The Blue Jays win their eighth straight to improve to 10-1 on the season while the Camels fall to 1-6.
Playing its third game of the day, Hopkins found itself trailing 3-2 at the end of one.
Luke Mendelsohn and
Mason Hofmann scored back-to-back goals to open the second and give the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead. Thomas McDonough and Carson Neidert answered with a pair for CC and the Camels led 5-4 with 5:09 to play in the second.
Patrick Rooney then scored three in a row for Hopkins, sandwiched around a goal from Topher Cook, to make it a 7-6 game. Jeffrey Harrington then tied the game for the seventh time with a six-on-five goal at 2:44.
Ethan Babel answered 58 seconds later, igniting a 5-0 JHU run. Five Blue Jays scored during the run, including goalie
Chris Poisler, as the Jays pushed out to a 12-7 lead early in the third.
Harrington halted the run with a power play goal at 5:21, but Hopkins answered with goals from
Matthieu Giauque and Mendelsohn to make it a 14-8 game with 1:04 to play in the quarter. Zach Dixon and McDonough scored back-to-back goals, bridging the quarter break, to pull the Camels back within four with 7:29 to play. Hopkins would close the game with four unanswered to close out the 18-10 win.
Rooney led the Blue Jays with four points (3g, 1a) while Mendelsohn also tallied a hat trick. Babel (1g, 2a),
Gavin Brooke (2g, 1a) and
Daniel Palfi (1g, 2a) all finished with three points apiece. Poisler notched seven saves to go with his goal and an assist.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, September 21 against second-ranked Pomona-Pitzer. The game is scheduled for a 10:15 am start.
