Johns Hopkins Competes at Mary Washington Kickoff Classic

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Johns Hopkins made the trip south to Fredericksburg for the annual Mary Washington Kickoff Classic. Mukundh Boopathi, Daniel Greene and Andy Zhu led the Blue Jays with two singles wins each. Dylan Blenkiron and Brian Yi led JHU in doubles by winning all three of their matches.
 
Boopathi dropped his first match to Niza Simunyola (GMU) 6-2, 6-2. He rebounded with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Evan Fisher (UMW) and Rufus Plane (LU) 8-6. Greene won each of his two matches in straight sets. He beat Kohl Perkins (WC) 7-5, 6-0 and then defeated Maxi Synnestvedt (WC) 6-3, 6-4. Zhu prevailed in three sets in his first match, beating Synnestvedt 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (7). He then dropped a tight 6-4, 6-4 decision to Tichi Chialva (WC) but followed that with an 8-6 win over Oskar Wroblewski (WC).
 
Blenkiron and Yi opened the weekend with a 6-3 win over Ekansh Kumar and Edgar Vilain (GMU). The duo then beat Daniel Lopez and Alejandro Uribe (LU) 6-2. Blenkiron and Yi closed out an undefeated weekend with a 6-2 win over Jack Riordan and Will Fromherz (UMW). Blenkiron went 1-2 in singles, beating Ryan Battaglia (UMW) 6-2, 6-4.
 
Owen Akers paired with Greene to go 1-1 in doubles. The pair beat Chialva and Synnestvedt 6-4 but then lost a close 7-6 (5) match to Jorge Urgal Zuleta and Petter Storberg (WC). Akers and Jason Li partnered for a 6-3 win over Demir Isiker and Julian Sealy (WC). Akers went 1-2 in singles, picking up a win over Keldibek Kozhoev (UMW) 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (6). Li also went 1-2 in singles and earned his win by beating Rithik Manchala (UMW) 6-1, 6-2.
 
Boopathi and Joshua Kim won their lone doubles match together, beating Kozhoev and Cooper Lehman 6-1. Kim won one of his three singles matches, getting his win in straight sets over Lehman 7-5, 6-1. Jack Wexler dropped his first two singles matches in three sets but rebounded with an 8-6 win over Demir Isiker in this third match. Gabe Xu won his only singles match, beating Sealy 6-2, 7-6 (5).
 
Allen Gong and Chakor Rajendra combined to go 2-1 in doubles. After losing their first match, the pair pulled out a 7-6 (5) win over Marko Mrdak and Timeo Puech (LU). Gong and Rajendra then cruised to a 6-1 win over Fisher and Trevor Rein. Gong wen 1-2 in singles, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win over Riordan. Rajendra won one of his two singles matches, beating Rein 6-4, 6-3.
