Johns Hopkins Blanks Messiah on Tran Goal

BALTIMORE, MD – An Tran's first career goal couldn't have come at a better time as it proved to be the only goal in Johns Hopkins 1-0 win over Messiah Wednesday night in non-conference action. The third-ranked Blue Jays improve to 6-1 on the season while the Falcons fall to 2-5.

The Falcons had their best chance to score midway through the third quarter when Lindsey Campione slipped a pass through the defense to Chelsea Carpenter. She dribbled into the circle, turned her back on goalie Aubrey Kilgore and backhanded a shot that just went wide.

It took just over 47 minutes before either team could get on the board, and it was the home team that broke through. On the Blue Jays' 11th penalty corner of the night, Evie Hamm took a pass from Caeli Robinson and sent a low shot towards the cage. Tran redirected the ball under Falcons' goalie Joy Lippert and into the back of the cage.

Kilgore played three quarters in goal while Jessica Lapidus played one quarter to combine for the shutout. Lippert finished with seven saves in the loss for the Falcons. Hopkins outshot Messiah, 14-2, and had a 12-1 advantage in corners.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 27 as the Blue Jays host the Bryn Mawr Owls. The Centennial Conference opener is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start. It is also Kenzie Opdyke Youth Day, with a free field hockey clinic prior to the game (10:00-11:30).
