BALTIMORE, MD –
Caeli Robinson scored three straight goals midway through the game to fuel third-ranked Johns Hopkins' 7-1 win over Bryn Mawr Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Owls slip to 5-4 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
Sophia Albano opened the scoring just 7:35 into the game when she lifted a centering pass from
Grace Waldeck over the Owls' netminder and into the top of the cage.
Evie Hamm then ignited a 3-0 second quarter for the Blue Jays when she blasted a corner insert from
Zoey Bennett into the top left corner of the cage just 1:57 into the second.
Robinson made it a three-goal game with the first of her three consecutive goals at 24:19. She took a pass from
Jenna Halpin and hammered a shot into the corner of the cage. Just five and a half minutes later, Robinson collected the insert from Albano and sent another hard shot into the Bryn Mawr cage.
Sixty-two seconds into the third quarter, Robinson completed her hat trick and put Hopkins up 5-0. Off another Blue Jay corner, she scored on a shot from the top off a
Kaitlin Coward insert. Ten minutes later, Halpin scored on a penalty stroke, drawn by Waldeck on fast-break opportunity. Just 22 seconds later,
Megan Chang dribbled through several defenders before scoring from just inside the left side of the circle and the lead was seven.
Bryn Mawr ended Hopkins' bid at a shutout 1:43 into the fourth quarter. Rachel Ofner collected a loose ball near the left endline, and slotted a pass across to Lucie Burgess on the back post, and she redirected it in. The Owls peppered the cage over the ensuing five minutes, but the Blue Jays got five saves from
Aubrey Kilgore and a defensive save from
An Tran to keep the visitors at bay.
Hopkins finished with a 30-13 advantage in shots and 17-6 edge in corners. Kilgore finished with seven saves and got defensive saves from Tran and
Joyce Tao. Charlene Basque totaled 12 saves for the Owls and got a defensive save from Zoe Woon.
Hopkins returns to Homewood Field on Tuesday, September 30 as the Blue Jays host the Dickinson Red Devils. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
