BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins opened 2026 with a 160-101 win over Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 6-1 while the Generals fall to 3-2. Hopkins won seven of 14 events, led by
Ken Lee's two individual wins.
Hopkins kicked off the meet by taking the top two spots in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of
Jaya Veerapaneni,
Reese Rosenthal, Lee and
Elizabeth Cohen grabbed the win in 3:51.28.
Stella Zhang,
Amy Hu,
Kate Petitt and
Kimberly Lan took second in 3:54.42.
Carly White followed with a third-place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:52.54.
Alex Watson led a Blue Jay sweep of first-second-third in the 200 Free as she touched in 1:52.91.
Julia Tuinman took second (1:56.36) and
Renee Bak took third (1:57.33). The Blue Jays then took first through fifth in the 100 Back. Lee led the way with an NCAA B time of 56.54 to take the win.
Lily Rossmann clocked in at 57.58, beating
Anna Miler by just one-hundredth of a second. Zhang placed fourth (58.84) and Lan placed fifth (59.83).
Hu finished in second place in the 100 Breast with a swim of 1:06.98.
Rachel Davis followed one-tenth of a second later for third place.
Katherine Chelus then placed fourth in 1:07.86. Petitt swam to a second-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:09.86.
Maddie Horner finished in third place in 2:10.52.
Cohen then led a Blue Jay sweep of the top four spots in the 50 Free. She clocked in at 24.32, followed by Veerapaneni (24.48),
Angela Kim (24.54) and
Claire Han (24.71). JHU turned the same trick in the 100 Free, led by Kim's winning time of 52.81. Watson placed second in 53.09, followed by Veerapaneni (53.49) and Lan (54.09).
Lee completed their sweep of the Backstroke with a swim of 2:04.26, leading to a one-two-three finish by the Blue Jays. Zhang finished in second with a time of 2:08.20, edging out Rossmann by 0.19 seconds. Bak led JHU with a second-place finish in the 200 Breast in 2:26.35. Chelus then took fourth with a swim of 2:30.04.
Melissa Er took second in the 500 Free in 5:09.49, followed by White in third place (5:18.46).
Petitt paced the Blue Jays in the 100 Fly as she took second in 57.51, with Cohen taking third in 58.07. Davis then took second in the 200 IM with a swim of 2:09.77, followed by Chelus in third (2:13.00). Hopkins closed out the meet with first, second and third-place finishes in the 200 Free Relay. Lan, Cohen, Miler and Bak combined for the win in 1:35.81. Lee, Rosenthal, Veerapaneni and Han took second in 1:38.70 and the team of Zhang, Kim, Watson and
Alia Basler took third in 1:39.78.
Hopkins is back in action on Friday, January 16 as the Blue Jays host the Swarthmore Garnet. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at the Barbara & Jerry Procton Pool.
