BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins went 2-1 at the JHU Invitational and senior
Jorge Gana earned his 300
th career win. Hopkins beat Haverford and Drew, both ranked in the top-eight in Division III, but fell to 14
th-ranked North Carolina. The Blue Jays are now 14-4 on the season.
Hopkins opened the day with a 21-8 win over eighth-ranked Haverford.
Alex Jeffords and
Neil Pandey won three bouts each to lead the Sabre squad to an 8-1 win.
Spencer Grossman Smisek did the same as the Foil squad won 6-3. And in the Epee, Gana and
Jamie Knox won twice each in a 5-4 win for the Blue Jays. Gana clinched the win for the Epee squad with his 300
th win. He is just the second Epeeist and eighth among all weapons to reach the milestone.
The Blue Jays then fell 23-4 to the Tar Heels.
Noah Zeng earned the lone win for the Sabre squad, while
Josh Sima did the same for the Epee squad. Gana and
Ethan Insler grabbed one win each for the Foil squad.
JHU closed out the day with a 19-8 win over seventh-ranked Drew. Pandey went 3-0 and Zeng won twice as the Sabre squad won 7-2. Grossman Smisek and
Yi Peng Sha combined for six wins in an 8-1 win by the Foil squad.
Matthew Dao won each of his three bouts, but the Epee squad dropped a 5-4 decision.
Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, January 24 at the Penn State Invitational.
