Wyatt Eglinton Manner and
Charlie Jackson combined for 37 points and Johns Hopkins led wire to wire in an 88-58 win at Haverford Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Fords fall to 7-12 and 1-6.
Jackson scored the game's first five points to fuel a 14-5 Blue Jay run to open the first.
Tanti Felli capped the run with a dunk at the 13:16-mark to five JHU the early nine-point lead. Gaven Marr and Jackson traded buckets before a Christian Uremovich free throw, and it was 16-8 Hopkins with 12:25 to go in the half.
Logan Feller scored on a layup to spark a methodical 30-11 Blue Jay run that spanned nearly 11 minutes. Eight different players scored during the run that saw Hopkins go 12-of-14 from the field and built a 46-19 lead at the 1:42-mark. After a pair of Marr free throws, JHU got a dunk from Jackson and a driving layup from Eglinton Manner to take a 50-21 lead into the half.
Haverford came out strong to start the second, scoring eight unanswered points, fueled by triples from Marr and Adam Strong-Jacobson. Hopkins answered with a 6-0 spurt to push its lead back to 56-29 just two and a half minutes in. The Fords pushed back, outscoring the Jays, 10-5, over the ensuing three minutes to make it a 22-point game.
Eglinton Manner made a conventional three-point play with 11:52 to play to ignite a 16-7 run. He and
Teagan Swint combined for 13 of Hopkins' 16 points as the Blue Jays pushed out to a 77-46 lead. Swint punctuated the run with a three-pointer at the 5:27-mark. The Fords had one last push in them, putting together a 9-3 run over the next two-and-a-half minutes, but could get no closer. The Blue Jays closed the game with an 8-3 spurt to secure the 30-point win.
Eglinton Manner led all scorers with 19 points to go with four rebounds, three assist and two steals. Jackson added 18 points, five rebounds and two steals and now has 915 points in his career. In all, 11 players scored for Hopkins, which shot 59.3 percent from the field.
Nick Klaiber finished with a game-high eight rebounds and five assists, to go with eight points. Marr led the Fords with 13 points while handing out three assists. Emmanuel Cheung Hernandez also finished in double figures, scoring 11 points while Strong-Jacobson pulled eight rebounds.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, February 4 at Gettysburg. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 pm at Bream Gym.
