BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins scored twice in the second half to shutout fifth-ranked Williams on a rain-soaked Homewood Field Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 9-4 on the season while the Ephs fall to 8-3.
Aubrey Kilgore stood tall in the cage in the first half, totaling 10 saves to keep the game scoreless after 30 minutes. Hopkins flipped the field in third quarter, scoring just 2:07 into the quarter. Just 90 seconds in, Sienna Alday came up with a defensive save on
Deedee Golla to keep it tied. Thirty seconds later, Golla intercepted an Ephs' pass in their own end and fed
Sophia Albano, who carried into the circle. With five defenders around her, Albano somehow found
Ava Zimmerman open on the post and she tipped in the pass to put JHU on top.
The Blue Jays doubled their lead with 9:26 to play in the fourth quarter.
Sarah Chilton threaded a pass through the defense to
Sophia Builione, who came cutting across the circle. She settled the ball and drew the goalie out before firing home the insurance goal.
Kilgore finished with 10 saves in the first half and
Jessica Lapidus came on in the second and was forced to make just one. Ellie Smith tallied four saves in the loss for the Ephs.
Williams had an 18-11 edge in shots, but were held to just four in the second half. Penalty corners were even at eight each. This is Hopkins' 15
th all-time win against a top five opponents, 10 of those have come in the last eight seasons.
Hopkins returns to Centennial Conference play on Wednesday, October 14 at McDaniel. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
