BALTIMORE, MD – The 18
th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team scored twice in a 10-minute span midway through the first half, tacked on a goal in the final 15 minutes of the second half and never let host Muhlenberg seriously threaten in a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon. The win is the seventh straight for the Blue Jays, who improve to 11-1-2 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Mules slip to 4-9-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the Centennial.
Â
Johns Hopkins, which outshot the Mules 42-2 on the day, would strike first in the 17
th minute when they converted on one of the 13
th corners they collected in the victory. Junior
Kendall Malmros lofted her offering towards the back post, where freshman
Katie Derby headed home her fifth goal of the season.
Â
The lead was doubled just under 10 minutes later after the Blue Jays capitalized on a set piece. Malmros played a free kick into the center of the box, where freshman
Addi Dauler was able to head it forward to junior
Carolyn Johnson, who headed home her fifth of the year; Muhlenberg goalie
Megan Stairs had come off her line to challenge Dauler and Johnson had an open goal at her disposal.
Â
Stairs would keep the Blue Jays at just two goals into the 76
th minute as she would collect 11 saves in the game, but Hopkins found its third of the day, this one off the foot of junior
Kendall Frederick with 14:26 remaining. Off another corner,
Terren Davis played it short to
Keira Petrucelli, who found Frederick all alone at the top of the box and Frederick rifled home her second of the year as she blistered one into the far corner past a defenseless Stairs.
Â
Ella Kruntchev was not forced to make a save in the victory for Johns Hopkins, which remains alone in first place in the Centennial Conference with the win.
Â
The Blue Jays will return to action on Wednesday, October 28 when they travel to Dickinson to take on the Red Devils (7 pm).
