GETTYSBURG, PA – Johns Hopkins and host Gettysburg finished in a 1-1 draw in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays push their unbeaten streak to six, and they are now 7-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. The Bullets are now 6-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Centennial.
The Bullets struck first, grabbing an early 1-0 lead thanks to Ian Selvaraj. Michael Sack carried the ball up in transition before centering the ball into the box. The ball took a deflection and landed right on the foot of Selvaraj, who took one touch before slotting a low shot into the left side of the goal in the ninth minute.
The Blue Jays drew level in the 62
nd minute off the right foot of
Connor Wilkes. JHU played the ball up from midfield and some quick passing ended with an
Alexander Ball pass to Wilkes. He cut back towards the middle and then fired a rocket past the outstretched hands of Anthony Marziliano to knot the score at one. It was all Hopkins' after that, as the Blue Jays outshot the Bullets 7-1 over the remainder of the game. Marziliano made a trio of saves in that run, including on a
Giulian Laudisa free kick that seemed ticketed for the upper right corner in the 79
th minute.
JHU finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots while Gettysburg had the edge in corners, 5-4.
John Ghanem tallied a pair of saves while Marziliano notched seven.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 7 as the Blue Jays visit the Salisbury Sea Gulls. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
