SALISBURY, MD – Host Salisbury jumped out to a two-goal lead and held on for a 2-1 win over Johns Hopkins Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays see their six-game unbeaten streak snapped as they fall to 7-3-2 overall, while the Sea Gulls improve to 9-1-2.
Salisbury grabbed the lead in the 38
th minute when Brogan Eastlack headed in a long throw from Noah Blankensop at the back post. The Sea Gulls doubled their lead just two minutes into the second half. Dale Gordon centered the ball to David Brunetti in the middle of the box. He corralled the ball, turned and fired a shot inside the post from 15 yards out.
Brendan Listzwan had a good look at goal in the 64
th minute when he beat a pair of defenders to a ball from
Jason Pan, but his shot was blocked by a defender. The Blue Jays got on the board in the 77
th minute with
Dylan Ellis' third goal of the season. Ellis headed a long clearing ball from
John Ghanem to
Alexander Ball. He drew a pair of defenders before crossing the ball back to Ellis, who blasted a shot under the crossbar from 20 yards out.
Salisbury finished with a 12-10 edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage in corners. Ghanem notched five saves in the goal for the Blue Jays. Clif Nehman tallied one save in the win for the Sea Gulls.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 10 as the Blue Jays host the Washington College Shoremen. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
