ALLENTOWN, PA – Johns Hopkins got goals from five different Blue Jays to shut out host Muhlenberg, 5-0, and secure the number one seed in next week's Centennial Conference Tournament. The Blue Jays finish the regular season with a 14-4 record overall and 9-1 in the conference. The Mules end their season at 6-12, including 3-7 in the Centennial.
Hopkins is the number one seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the seventh straight year and eighth time in the last nine seasons.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Blue Jays scored twice in a 62-second span to take control of the game.
Deedee Golla opened the scoring when she took a centering pass from
Sophia Albano and beat Brenna Fitzpatrick from in-tight just 47 seconds into the stanza. Albano then tipped in a shot from
Caeli Robinson off a penalty corner and just like that Hopkins led 2-0.
Five minutes into the third quarter, JHU capitalized on another corner and it again was Albano with the helper. She sent the ball to
Ada Farmer at the top of the circle; she settled it and fired a low shot into the back of the cage. Just 2:07 into the fourth,
Zoya Iyer dribbled along the right endline and then centered the ball to
Catherine D'Arcy, who sent the ball inside the left post to stake Hopkins to a 4-0 lead.
The Blue Jays closed out the scoring with 2:19 to play when
Ava Zimmerman redirected a shot from
Sarah Chilton off a corner.
Hopkins outshot Muhlenberg, 29-1, and finished with a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Aubrey Kilgore and
Jessica Lapidus split time in the cage and were not forced to make a save. Fitzpatrick finished with eight saves in three quarters before giving way to Maddie Schwartz, who tallied one save.
Hopkins earns a first-round bye and will host a Centennial Conference semifinal on Thursday, November 5.
