BALTIMORE, MD – Swarthmore rode a first-quarter goal to a 1-0 win over host and eighth-ranked Swarthmore Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays slip to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the 21
st-ranked Garnet improve to 8-3 and 4-0 in the CC.
The Garnet got on the board midway through the first quarter when an Erin Coyle long hit slipped through the defense and ended up on the stick of Nina Wiggins in the circle. She settled the ball and then slotted a low shot into the middle of the cage to stake Swarthmore to the early 1-0 lead.
Hopkins had a great look at tying the game on a penalty corner midway the second quarter, but Josie Sarno came up with back-to-back saves on
Evie Hamm and
An Tran. Late in the third quarter, a
Sarah Chilton shot off the corner hit the post square.
JHU finished with a 12-9 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Aubrey Kilgore (one save) and
Jessica Lapidus (two saves) split time in the cage for the Blue Jays. Sarno notched seven saves to earn the win for the Garnet.
Hopkins is right back at Homewood Field on Friday, October 9 to take on 10
th-ranked Franklin & Marshall. The Centennial Conference game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
