BALTIMORE, MD – The No. 3/3 Johns Hopkins women's basketball team delivered a dominant, wire-to-wire performance Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Franklin & Marshall College, 80-47, inside Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays used a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense to outscore the Diplomats 53-23 across the second and third quarters, securing their 22
nd consecutive victory—extending the program's Centennial Conference record—and improving to 22-0 overall and 13-0 in league play. Hopkins remains one of just four unbeaten teams in Division III.
Prior to tip-off, the Blue Jays honored their six seniors and graduate student—
Macie Feldman,
Kendall Dunham,
Grace Soltes,
Emily Collins,
Beth Corelli,
Stephanie Theodossakos and
Elisabeth Peebles—in a Senior Night ceremony celebrating their contributions to the program.
After building a nine-point advantage in the opening quarter, Hopkins seized full control in the middle frames. The game was scoreless for nearly three minutes before Soltes broke through with a pair of free throws, sparking a 9-0 run over 2:22.
Layla Henderson capped the burst with an and-one, and
Lauren Knudson finished in the lane as time expired to give the Blue Jays a 17-8 lead after one.
The second quarter belonged entirely to Hopkins. The Blue Jays knocked down all five of their three-point attempts in the period, with
Faith Williamson accounting for two. Feldman opened the frame with a layup to ignite an 11-2 run, punctuated by Dunham's corner three that pushed the lead to 28-10. Williamson then buried back-to-back triples to stretch the advantage past 20, and Henderson added another three-pointer late to send Hopkins into halftime with a commanding 46-21 lead.
The Blue Jays continued to pour it on in the third. Soltes capped an 8-0 run to open the quarter, and Henderson later finished another 8-0 spurt as the lead ballooned to 64-26. Hopkins carried a 39-point cushion into the final frame.
Dunham extended the margin to as many as 41 points early in the fourth before the Blue Jays closed out the 33-point victory.
Soltes, Williamson and Henderson paced the balanced scoring effort with 12 points apiece. Soltes added a double-double with 12 rebounds, along with an assist, a steal and a block. Collins chipped in 10 rebounds, six points and a game-high three blocks, anchoring a defensive effort that limited the Diplomats to 47 points.
Johns Hopkins returns to action Wednesday, February 18, hosting the University of Mary Washington inside Goldfarb Gymnasium for its final regular-season home game. The contest will also serve as Breast Cancer Awareness Night, with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
