Matt Collison has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week it was announced today. Collison, who earns the award for the first time in his career, led the way offensively in a 17-2 season-opening win against Robert Morris on Monday. Since the league added men's lacrosse in 2015, this is the 23
rd time a Johns Hopkins player has earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Against the Colonials, Collison totaled five goals and one assist for six points. The five goals and six points are both career highs for Collison, who became the first Johns Hopkins midfielder to punch up five goals in a game since Paul Rabil had six in the 2008 national championship game.
With his five-goal, one-assist effort against Robert Morris, Collison pushed his career totals to 75 goals and 32 assists for 107 points. The five goals mark the seventh hat trick of his career and it was also the 23
rd multi-goal game of his career. His six points mark the 36
th multi-point game of his career and he extended his point-scoring streak to 17 games.
Johns Hopkins (1-0) will return to action on Saturday, February 7 when the Blue Jays travel to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas (0-0).
