ROSEMONT, IL – For the second time this season, Johns Hopkins senior goalie
Oran Gelinas has been named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week it was announced today. The selection of Gelinas this week marks the third time this season that a Blue Jay has earned Specialist of the Week honors as sophomore
Joe Hobot also earned the award earlier this season. This is also the 22
nd time that a Johns Hopkins player has earned Specialist of the the Week honors since the league added men's lacrosse in 2015.
Gelinas posted 19 saves in Johns Hopkins' 9-8 double overtime loss at Rutgers on Sunday (March 29). He notched seven of his 19 saves in the fourth quarter and added four more in overtime. The 19 saves are the second-highest total of Gelinas's career and the most by a Big Ten goalie this season.
Through nine games, Gelinas sports a 9.38 goals against average and a .580 save percentage. He currently leads the Big Ten in save percentage and ranks fourth in goals against average. Gelinas has not played enough minutes to qualify among the national statistical leaders (goalies must play 60% of a team's total minutes to qualify). However, his 9.38 goals against average would currently rank 14
th nationally and his save percentage would be tied for fourth.
Johns Hopkins (6-3, 1-1 B1G) will return to action on Saturday, April 4 when the Blue Jays welcome Penn State (6-3, 2-0 B1G) to Homewood Field.
