Blue Jays Split with Haverford in Saturday Twinbill

Hopkins Takes Opener, 6-4; Falls in Nightcap, 10-5

BALTIMORE, MD – The No. 3/3 Johns Hopkins baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Haverford at Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium, taking the opener 6-4 before falling 10-5 in the nightcap. The Blue Jays move to 26-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play, suffering their first conference loss of the season.

Game 1: JHU 6, HAV 4
Starting pitcher Ryan Anderson battled early command issues before settling in, ultimately delivering three shutout innings. Haverford struck first in the opening frame, capitalizing on a leadoff walk that came around to score for a 1-0 lead. Anderson quickly regrouped, retiring nine of the next 11 batters he faced.

The Blue Jays offense responded with four runs over the next two innings. Damian Brown got Hopkins on the board with a sacrifice fly to spark a three-run second inning. One batter later, Shane Keough launched a two-run home run to give the Blue Jays a 3-1 advantage. Brown added to the lead in the fourth with a solo home run, making it 4-1.

Haverford answered with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4, using a run-scoring single and double to even things up.

Hopkins regained control in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of a throwing error by the Fords' catcher to plate the go-ahead run. The Blue Jays added an insurance run in the eighth when Alex Shane drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 6-4.

Nicolas Jos (1-0) earned his first win of the season, tossing the final 3.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits, struck out one and retired nine of the 12 batters he faced, inducing double plays to end both the sixth and seventh innings.
