O'Brien Named IWLCA Defender of the Year

BALTIMORE, MD –Reagan O'Brien, the most decorated defender in program history, adds another accolade to an already loaded resume on Tuesday as she was named the 2026 IWLCA Defender of the Year. She is just the second player in program history to earn national Defender of the Year honors and the first since Mary Ann McGuire (1997).

O'Brien, a two-time consensus First Team All-American, finished her career as the NCAA's record holder in career caused turnovers (254) and single season (103). In fact, she has the top two single season totals in NCAA history. A Tewaaraton Award finalist, O'Brien leads the NCAA this season with 88 caused turnovers and 4.40 per game. In addition, she ranks fifth in ground balls (72) and ground balls per game (3.60).

A two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, O'Brien owns 11 of the top 15 single game caused turnover marks in Johns Hopkins history. She is the only player in program history with double digit CTs in a game and she did so twice in her career. O'Brien also ranks third in school Division I history, and sixth overall, with 195 career ground balls. Her 72 ground balls this season are tied for second most in JHU history.
