BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins women's soccer coach Dan Weiler announced the addition of Carly Wetzel and Kobe Crone as assistant coaches with the program today.  Both have strong local ties to the Baltimore area and join a Blue Jay program that posted a 17-5-1 record, won a fourth consecutive Centennial Conference title and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament last season.
 
Wetzel won three state championships at nearby River Hill High School and played two seasons at Centennial Conference rival McDaniel (2018-19) before transferring to North Carolina to play for the Tar Heels.  In a career interrupted by the COVID pandemic, she was a member of the North Carolina women's soccer team during the 2021-22 season and was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll while graduating as a double major in Political Science and Spanish with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average.  She later played one season at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland as she earned her master's in Global Social and Political Thought.
 
An assistant coach at UMBC from 2024-25, Wetzel has played professionally in Ireland, Iceland and Germany.  While working with the Retriever women's soccer team, she assisted in all areas of the program, including practice and game-planning and individual player development.  She also spent four years as an assistant youth soccer coach with Soccer by Rachel.  There, she focused as a developmental coach with youth players and led individual, group and team training sessions.
 
Crone was a four-year letter winner and standout in goal at nearby Dulaney High School and helped his club team – Baltimore Celtic – to an appearance at the national championships.  He played collegiately at Lycoming and then CCBC-Essex, helping the Knights to back-to-back NJCAA Division II title games. He earned an associate's degree at CCBC-Essex and then a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Baltimore.
 
Crone served as an assistant coach at Essex from 2022-26, where he worked closely with four goalkeepers who would earn All-America honors.  He played a key role in the overall defensive system with specific emphasis on match preparation, position-specific training and technical development.
 
In addition to his playing and coaching accomplishments, Crone is a member of the United Goalkeeper Alliance and the International Goalkeeper Coaches Conference.  He holds a USSF "D" License and has earned multiple United Soccer Coaches diplomas, including Goalkeeping Level 1 and Level 2, Modern Goalkeeping and Coaching Dynamics. Crone has coached with several local clubs and organizations, including Racing Power FC, the Born to Fly Goalkeeper Academy, the Pells Keeper School and Touch Kings FC, which he served as the Academy Director of from 2022-26.
 
Johns Hopkins will open the 2026 season on September 1 when the Blue Jays welcome Catholic to Homewood Field.
