Mid-Game Run Powers Susquehanna Past Johns Hopkins

River Hawks Top Blue Jays, 49-23, at Homewood Field

BALTIMORE, MD – Visiting #19/#24 Susquehanna scored touchdowns on seven of eight drives between the first and third quarters to power the River Hawks to a 49-23 victory at #15/#13 Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon.  The win bumps Susquehanna's record to 3-0, while the Blue Jays drop their second straight and slip to 1-2.

Johns Hopkins led 10-7 after Luke Baker found Alex Orecchio behind the defense with a 58-yard touchdown pass with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter, but Susquehanna answered with a nine-play, 61-yard drive that Tommy Wright polished off with a two-yard touchdown pass to Drew Hutchins early in the second quarter that jump-start the game-deciding run for the River Hawks.

The 14-10 Susquehanna lead was 35-10 at the half as Matt Surtz scored on a four-yard run and Wright added a 39-yard touchdown strike to Frankie Mroz and a 17-yard scoring pass to Carter McCauley in the final four minutes of the second quarter.

Wright would cap his five-touchdown performance with a third-quarter scoring pass to Jimmy Fusaro to extend the lead to 42-10 before a 29-yard Frankie Williams touchdown run capped the scoring for the River Hawks late in the third quarter.

Johns Hopkins would tack on a four-yard touchdown pass from Baker to Robbie Enright and a 13-yard Cooper Powell touchdown run in the fourth quarter to account for the 49-23 final score.
