SWARTHMORE, PA – Johns Hopkins beat host Swarthmore, 2-1, in both teams' Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 4-2-1 overall while the Garnet fall to 1-5-1.
Rohan Aggarwal gave the Blue Jays the early lead in just the 17
th minute with his first career goal. After
Giulian Laudisa intercepted a pass deep in the Garnet zone, getting the ball to Aggarwal. He played it forward to
Brendan Listzwan at the top of the box, and he touched it right back. Aggarwal stepped up and blasted a shot inside the top left corner from about 20 yards out.
Swarthmore answered less than five minutes into the second half when John Paul D'Andrea sprung Joost Almekinders in the box. He ran on to the ball and slotted a low shot just inside the right post to knot the score at one in the 50
th minute.
The Blue Jays retook the lead in the 61
st minute on
Nate Kim's first career goal.
Rishi Pathak crossed the ball into the box to
Dusty Dwyer who settled it and then dropped the ball back to Kim. He ran onto the ball and fired a low shot through four defenders and into the middle of the goal.
Swarthmore finished with a 12-11 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corners.
John Ghanem made three saves to earn the win. Colin Crowe also notched three saves for the Garnet.
Hopkins returns to Homewood Field to take on Widener on Wednesday, September 23. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
