BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins got a goal from
Brendan Listzwan and three saves from
John Ghanem in a 1-0 win over visiting Widener Wednesday night. The Blue Jays move to 5-2-1 on the season while snapping the Pride's four-game win streak as they fall to 4-2-1.
It took until the 68
th minute but the Blue Jays capitalized on a Pride error to get on the board.
Lamine Camara sent the ball into the box from the left side and a defender attempted to clear it over the endline. However, the ball hit the left post and bounced right to Listzwan, who was about seven yards out. He settled the ball and with Widener goalie Tristan Wiley out of position, calmly buried in the left side of the goal.
The Pride had a good look in the 79
th minute to draw level, when Salvatore Coppola turned just inside the box and put a low shot on goal, but Ghanem kicked it away to keep the visitors off the scoreboard with his third save of the game.
Hopkins finished with a 16-8 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corners. Ghanem tallied the three saves for his third shutout of the season. Wiley also notched three saves in the loss for the Pride.
Hopkins returns to Centennial Conference play on Saturday, September 26 against Haverford. The game is slated for a 1:00 pm start at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays will honor longtime assistant coach
Winston Earle, who passed away in June, at halftime.
