BALTIMORE, MD –
Giulian Laudisa scored the game's only goal and
John Ghanem stopped all three shots he faced as Johns Hopkins beat 25
th-ranked Haverford, 1-0. The Blue Jays improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference. The Fords see their conference-record 27-game unbeaten streak snapped as they fall to 7-1-1 (1-1-0).
Josh Brown had a good look off a Fords' corner kick just 6:30 into the game, but Ghanem knocked it away to keep the game scoreless. Hopkins then cashed in on a quick counterattack to score what turned out to be the game's only goal in the 41
st minute.
Rishi Pathak intercepted a Fords' pass, playing the ball to
Rohan Aggarwal to spring the counterattack. He passed to
Connor Wilkes at midfield, and he carried the ball up field, before passing back to Aggarwal making a run down the left flank. Aggarwal then found Laudisa, who had slipped through the defense, and he one-timed a left-footer to the back post.
The Blue Jays nearly made it a two-goal game less than five minutes into the second off the head of
Juan Bruzzone, but it missed just wide. Wilkes had a great look in transition midway through the half, but his shot skipped just wide of the back post. Thomas Vanni had one last look for the Fords in the waning seconds, with a shot from the middle of the box, but Ghanem was there to corral the ball and preserve the win.
Ghanem finished with the three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Grayson Benson tallied four saves for the Fords in their first loss since November 2, 2024. The Fords' 27-game unbeaten streak was a school and conference record and the longest active streak in the nation. The Blue Jays had held the conference record for unbeaten streak at 24, which had stood since 2007.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 30 as the Blue Jays host the McDaniel Green Terror. The Centennial Conference match-up is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
