BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins scored three second-half goals to grab a 3-0 win over visiting McDaniel Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays move to 7-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the conference, while the Green Terror fall to 6-2-1 and 1-2-0.
McDaniel nearly scored just 23 seconds into the game off a Callen Kleinschmidt header at the right post, but
John Ghanem was there for the stop. Quinn Pudloski then had a good look on a free kick just outside the box in the 25
th minute, but again Ghanem made the save.
Hopkins got on the board in the 54
th minute after
Rohan Aggarwal was fouled in the box.
Connor Wilkes then converted the penalty kick for his first goal of the season. The Green Terror looked to draw even in the 62
nd minute when Jacob Hicks tried to lob a shot over Ghanem, but he was able to punch it away.
The Blue Jays then pushed their lead to two in the 67
th minute off the foot of
Gabriel Pirayou. After a nice give-and-go between Aggarwal and Listzwan, Aggarwal played the ball forward to Gabriel, who took one touch before firing a right-footed shot into the middle of the goal. Hopkins' lead grew to three in the 76
th minute when
Alexander Ball crossed the ball into the box and a defender's clear attempt ended up in the top of the goal.
Hopkins finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corners. Ghanem posted three saves to finish with his shutout of the season. Gavin Yartymyk tallied eight saves in the loss for the Terror.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 3 as the Blue Jays visit the Gettysburg Bullets. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
