BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team completed a two-game homestand with a 2-0 victory against visiting Haverford at rain-soaked Homewood Field Saturday afternoon.  The win is the second straight for the Blue Jays, who improve to 6-1-2 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference with the victory, while the Fords dropped their second straight and slip to 3-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Centennial.
 
Prior to the game, the Blue Jays honored their nine seniors and one graduate student as part of Senior Day.  Two of the nine seniors would combine for the shutout in goal.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Blue Jays needed less than 15 minutes of second-half play to score the only two goals of the game.  Junior Gwen Rauvola, who entered the week with no career goals, made it two straight games with one as she opened the scoring in the 54^th minute.  A Ford defender tried to clear away a floating serve into the box, but her header dropped seven yards from the goal to the right of Haverford goalie Allie Billups.  Rauvola collected the bouncing ball and poked one inside the far post to stake Hopkins to the one-goal lead.

Just under four minutes later, freshman Inara Inesi threaded a pass through the defense to a cutting Carolyn Johnson, who was able to control the pass in nearly the same spot Rauvola had scored from and slip a five-yarder past Billups to double the lead.
 
The two goals would be all the Blue Jays would get despite firing 10 second-half shots at Billups, who posted five of her seven saves in the game after halftime.

For her part, Johns Hopkins goalie Eva Breiland posted four saves after relieving starter Stephanie Wyszkowski at halftime.  The biggest of the four came in the 85^th minute when she went low to her right to punch away a Natalie Kelly offering that appeared ticketed for the corner of the goal.  Breiland and Wyszkowski combined on the shutout after they were two of the nine senior Johns Hopkins honored during the pregame ceremony.
 
The shutout is the second and fifth in nine games for the Blue Jays, who also saw head coach Dan Weiler inch closer to his 100^th victory at Homewood.  Weiler improved his Johns Hopkins record to 96-14-12 with today's victory.
 
After playing nine games in 26 days, Johns Hopkins will now have a week off before travelling to Bryn Mawr on October 3 (1 pm) to take on the Owls in another Centennial Conference game.
