BALTIMORE, MD – Visiting Vassar scored with just 34 seconds remaining to force a 2-2 draw with Johns Hopkins Friday night in the Blue Jays' home opener. The Blue Jays and the Brewers are each 1-0-1 on the young season.
The Blue Jays took an early lead with
Brendan Listzwan's second goal in as many games. From the left side of the box,
Connor Wilkes sent a ball to the back post where Listzwan flicked it past Jacob Raphan in the ninth minute. A little over 11 minutes, Hopkins doubled its lead off another Wilkes' helper. After taking a pass from
Juan Bruzzone, Wilkes carried it into the box and again sent a ball to the back post. This time it was
Giulian Laudisa on the receiving end, one-timing the pass into the top of the net.
Vassar answered in the 29
th minute when Eli Torrey dibbled into the box and fired a left-footed shot into the left side of the goal from 15 yards out. In the 83
rd minute,
Ryan Aiken made a save on a Jackson Allen header to preserve the one-goal lead for Hopkins. But Vassar wasn't going away and got the equalizer off the head of Alejandro Martinez. With time winding down, Raphan played a long ball into the box, where it was headed by Jonah Kim and then again by Martinez over a charging Aiken.
Aiken finished with one save while Raphan made a pair in the tie. Vassar had a 10-8 edge in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, September 6 as the Blue Jays host the Washington & Lee Generals. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm at Homewood Field.
