Biography

Updated August 10, 2017

Returning for his fifth season as a member of Jim Margraff's coaching staff is David Josephson. Josephson moves back to the defensive side of the ball this season as he takes over the Blue Jay secondary and will also serve as the special teams coordinator.

Previously, Josephson coached the Blue Jay receivers (2016) and running backs (2013, 2014) and served one year (2015) as a defensive assistant. He joined the staff in 2013 after his playing career was cut short by an injury. Undaunted, he continued his contribution to the program by quickly becoming a valuable student assistant - immersing himself in all aspects of the coaching staff. He also spent the spring of 2017 as an offensive assistant at Yale.

Josephson was a key member of the Blue Jay offensive staff in 2016 as Johns Hopkins set school records for total offense (6,121), yards per game (510.1), passing yards (4,106) and touchdown passes (37). Three of Josephson's players earned All-Centennial Conference honors in 2016, five different receivers had 29 or more receptions and five players had at least six touchdown receptions on the year.

Josephson worked with a young crop of Blue Jay running backs in 2013 that produced 260.9 rushing yards per game and 37 touchdowns on the year. The team's 2,870 rushing yards, 260.9 yards per game and 37 rushing touchdowns all ranked second in Johns Hopkins history at the time. In 2014, the Blue Jay running game accounted for 204.2 yards per game and added 34 rushing touchdowns on the year, while Josephson seamlessly transitioned to the defensive side of the ball in 2015 and promptly helped coach a unit that forced 38 turnovers, the third highest total in school history.

In each of Josephson's two years working with the running backs, Johns Hopkins produced a First Team All-Centennial performer.

Josephson graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2015 with general honors and a degree in economics.
