Shedrick Elliott III is in his 10th year at Johns Hopkins, and his seventh year full-time as an assistant track and cross country coach.

Elliott, who holds a USATF Level II certification in sprints, hurdles, and relays, has been an integral part of the success of the Johns Hopkins men’s and women’s track teams since arriving prior to the 2014-15 indoor season. Since then, the Blue Jay track teams have combined to win 30 of the 32 Centennial Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships.

Elliott’s primary focus continues to be with the Blue Jay sprinters and 800-meter runners. In all, Elliott has coached 19 national qualifiers, including five All-Americans, highlighted by Lauren Phillips, the 2023 Indoor National Runner-up in the 400-meter dash.  By the end of the 2023 season as a sophomore, Phillips finished the year ranked 11th All-Time in Division III history in the indoor 400-meter dash (55.35), while accumulating six individual indoor and outdoor conference records to her resume.  In addition, Elliott has coached more than 60 Centennial Conference individual and relay champions, who along the way, have broken well over a dozen school records and over 10 conference records.

The 2023 USTFCCCA Women’s Indoor Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year, Elliott graduated from Towson University in 2007 and spent eight seasons as the head coach of the Boy’s and Girl’s Track and Field teams at Western Tech in nearby Catonsville from 2006-14. A five-time Baltimore Sun All-Metro Coach of the Year, Elliott coached 55 individual and relay state champions, five state championship teams, and dozens of New Balance National qualifiers, including the 2014 New Balance Outdoor Emerging Elite Women’s 800m National Champion. He also spent five years as the Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country coach there from 2009-13 before coming to Johns Hopkins.

Prior to spending his final two years at Towson, where he earned a degree in sport management, Elliott competed on the cross country, indoor, and outdoor track teams at Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. He was also a four-year member of the cross country and track teams at Western Tech during his high school years of 1998-2002.
