Phil Junis joined the Johns Hopkins Athletics staff in February 2013 as the Head Athletic Equipment Manager.  In this role, he manages one part-time assistant and a student work force that provides all equipment services for Johns Hopkins' 24 varsity athletic teams and more than 600 student-athletes.

Junis coordinates the care, fitting, issuing and retrieval of all equipment and is responsible for the maintenance of all team and individual equipment.  He helped manage Johns Hopkins' department-wide transition from Nike to Under Armour in the summer of 2017 as the main point of contact for the University in the development of new uniforms, apparel and footwear for all Blue Jay teams.

A native of Fremont, Ohio, Junis came to Johns Hopkins from nearby Towson University, where he was the Assistant Athletic Equipment Manager from 1999-2011.  There, he worked closely with the Tiger football, field hockey and men's and women's lacrosse teams.  In addition to his day-to-day activities, Junis played a key role in the transition to Towson's new, 11,000-seat on-campus playing facility, Unitas Stadium.

Junis’ career in athletics began in 1978 as a graduate assistant athletic equipment manager at Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, OH. He then moved to Maryland, where he joined the UMBC staff in January 1995.  He spent four years as the head athletic equipment manager at UMBC and oversaw a staff that included two full-time assistants and a work-study staff of students that provided support for UMBC's 21-sport varsity athletic program.

In addition to working and assisting in the hosting of numerous conference and NCAA Championships at Johns Hopkins, Towson and UMBC, Junis also assisted in Baltimore's hosting of the first and second round of the 1995 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament and the 2003, 2004 and 2007 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships at M&T Bank Stadium.

Junis earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University. He is a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association and is a member of several national committees within the organization. He resides in nearby Parkville with his wife, Denise, and daughter, Meghan.
