Sept. 6, 2001
BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Annie Colabella (East Granby, CT/East Granby) and freshmen Sandra Lebo (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor) and Jen Baldwin (Medway, MA/Medway) each scored their first career goal as the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team defeated visiting St. Mary's College 3-0 this afternoon.
JHU set a school-record with its 13th straight victory, including the final 11 games of 2000, and recorded its fifth consecutive shutout. The school-record for consecutive shutouts is seven, set by the 1997 squad. St. Mary's fell to 2-1 on the year.
With the game scoreless and heading towards halftime, Lebo stole the ball from a Seahawks defender and netted her first career goal with just 15 second remaining in the half. Lebo's goal gave the Blue Jays momentum heading into the second half, and the team capitalized with two goals in a five-minute span to grab a comfortable lead. Baldwin connected off an assist from junior Jill Minger (Durham, OR/St. Mary's), and Colabella quickly followed with her first career goal.
Junior goalkeeper Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran) and the defense played strong once again. O'Malley recorded her 16th-career shutout and made two saves to pass the 100-save mark. She needs just 10 saves to move into third-place at Hopkins in career saves.
Hopkins will return to action on Sunday, September 9 with a home match against Johnson & Wales at 1:00 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the schools.
