BALTIMORE - Dickinson was able to grab an early lead and hold on to earn a 2-0 win over Johns Hopkins and at least a share of the Centennial Conference women's soccer regular season title on Tuesday night at Homewood Field.
With the win, Dickinson improved to 12-1-3 overall and remains the only team in Centennial play with an undefeated mark, at 8-0-1. By virtue of a tiebreaker advantage over Ursinus (6-1-1, CC), the Red Devils will host the Centennial Conference tournament for the first time.
Hopkins fell for the third time this season at Homewood Field, dropping to 12-3-1 overall, 6-2-1 in league play.
The first strike for the Red Devils came early, when junior Erin Parkyn sent a through ball to sophomore Lisa Nichols, who found the back of the net at the 5:17 mark.
Dickinson picked up an insurance tally in the second half, when Jessica Griggs got control of a ball on a direct kick situation and sent it through traffic, giving the Red Devils a 2-0 lead at 67:57. Parkyn had her second assist of the night on the play.
The Red Devils cashed in twice on only three shots in the game, while Hopkins fired 23 attempts at the goal, yielding nothing for the Blue Jays.
Senior goalie Alanna Schectman made the lead stand with five saves for Dickinson.
Hopkins will close out the 2005 regular season with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall.
