BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's and women's swimming teams both went undefeated at Loyola's Thomas Murphy Invitational, where the men swept Howard (238-58), Loyola (213-85), and VMI (253-70), and the women defeated Howard (187-96) and Loyola (174-153). The Blue Jays had first-place finishes in 24 of 32 swimming events.
The men's 200 freestyle relay started the winnings for Hopkins, as Brad Test, Tyler Harris, Andrew Stirn, and Zane Hamilton placed first at 1:27.32 in the second event of the meet. The Blue Jays then took the first four spots in the 400 IM, led by Colin Kleinguetl (4:13.21) and followed by Sean Kim, Ryan Kim, and Matt Fedderly.
Other first-place male finishes throughout the two-day meet included Kleinguetl in the 200 butterfly (1:57.01), Test in the 50 free (21.48), Fedderly in the 200 breast (2:13.90), Richard Guerard in the 1650 free (17:12.08) and the 200 back, Brian Sneed in the 100 butterfly (53.31), John Kegelman in the 100 back (56.08), and Sean Kim in the 200 IM (1:59.48). The 200 medley relay team of Ryan Kim, Fedderly, Kegelman, and Andrew Stirn also placed first at 1:38.20, while the 800 freestyle relay team of Kyle Foust, Guerard, Ryan Kim, and Test won in 7:09.93.
In the women's events, Stephanie Laperle (4:43.76) and Allie Foster (4:47.38) finished first and second in the 400 IM, the second women's race of the day. Kristin Cunningham won the next event, the 50 freestyle, as she finished in 24.82. Other Blue Jay wins included Stephanie Leaman in the 1650 freestyle (18:30.43), Cunningham in the 500 freestyle and the 200 IM (2:14.47), Katie Herbst in the 200 back (5:14.61) and the 200 free (1:59.75), Foster in the 100 breast (1:09.87), and LaPerle in the 200 butterfly (2:15.34) and the 200 breast (2:33.34).
Hopkins also won two relays, as Herbst, Foster, Kelly Robinson, and Jacqueline Rooney combined for a first-place finish in the 200 medley (1:55.58), and Cunningham, Herbst, Foster, and Kalei Walker's time of 8:04.15 was over four seconds faster than any other team in the 800 freestyle relay.
The next meet for Johns Hopkins is its first and only home meet of the year, next Tuesday, November 22, against Yale (3 pm).
