BALTIMORE, MD - In their first meet this season against a Division III opponent, the Johns Hopkins men's swim team (1-2) beat Franklin & Marshall 135-112 at home. The win was highlighted by nine wins for the Blue Jays. Freshman John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose) led the team with two wins.
The meet opened with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Thomas swam the opening leg, followed by freshmen Todd Spock (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) and Spiros Moisiades (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich). Freshman Neil Mahoney (Minneapolis, MN/Minnetonka) anchored the relay as JHU came in at 1:38.73. Senior Kevin Walsh (Athens, GA/Cedar Shoals), junior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School), seniors Keith Parent (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) and Richard Guerard (Chatham, NJ/Morristown-Beard) finished in second with a time of 1:40.42.
Sophomore Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) followed that up with a win in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:03.70. Freshman AJ Blood (McClean, VA/Sidwell Friends) finished in third (10:24.02). Next, junior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) won the 200 Free (1:46.59) as Hopkins swept the top-three. Mahoney took second (1:48.44) and sophomore David Postetter (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) took third (1:51.89).
Hopkins followed that up with a sweep of the top-three in the 50 Back, led by Thomas (25.01). Fedderly won the 50 Breast (28.72). Sophomore Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) followed that up with a win in the 100 Fly (53.27). Mahoney continued the winning streak for the Jays with a win in the 50 Free (22.36), followed by a win in the 100 Free for Thomas (48.66). Parent then won the 100 Back (56.22). Hopkins then swam exhibitions in the final five events.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 4 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
