BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's swim team won its final dual meet of the season, 152-99 over visiting Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 6-4 heading into the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in mid-February.
Sophomore Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/The Culver Academies) swam to a first-place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 25.43. Junior Val Neff-Rasmussen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) finished second with a time of 26.64. Sophomore Kristin Cunningham (North Potomac, MD) won her first event of the day, the 100 Free (53.61) with Rooney taking second (55.74) and freshman Sarah Thomas (Portsmouth, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas) taking third (57.40).
Cunningham then got her second win with a time of 1:56.18 in the 200 Free - matching her best time of the season. Thomas finished in second (2:02.38) and Neff-Rasmussen took fourth (2:05.49). Sophomore Elissa Stautner (The Woodlands, TX/Oak Ridge) followed with a win in the 500 Free with a time of 5:14.34. Sophomore Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD/Stone Ridge) placed second (5:17.58) with freshman Ashley Lopes (Lexington, MA/Lexington) taking fourth (5:46.45).
Sophomore Kate Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) won the 1000 Free with a time of 11:13.82, while freshman Julia Senerth took second (11:15.26). Junior Erica Pakkala (Lititz, PA/Warwick) won the 100 Back (1:01.68). Freshman Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) took second (1:02.24) and Zepp took third (1:02.53). Sophomore Kate Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) won her first of two events, swimming the 200 Back in 2:12.62. Pakkala took second with a time of 2:13.92.
Senior Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) won the 100 Breast with a time of 1:08.35. Freshman Caitlin Dennis (Moorestown, NJ/Merion Mercy Academy) took second with a time of 1:09.72. Dennis then won the 200 Breast with a time of 2:29.61. Freshman Robin Schaffer (Dublin, OH/Columbus School for Girls) won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:17.04. Freshman Taylor Mann (Branford, CT/Branford) took third (2:24.55). Hopkins then swam exhibitions in the 100 Fly, the 200 IM and the 400 Free Relay. Hopkins did win the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:51.88. Pakkala, Qu, Foster and Cunningham all swam on the relay.
Hopkins will have 2 1/2 weeks to prepare for the conference championships. The championships will take place in Charlotte, NC from February 15-17. The Blue Jays won the 2006 Bluegrass Mountain Conference championship.
