Box Score

PRINCETON, NJ - Princeton's Holly McGarvie's goal with 37 seconds left in the first sudden victory overtime gave the #4 Tigers an 11-10 win on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium. For #10 Johns Hopkins, it was the first loss of the season, as the Blue Jays fall to 2-1. Princeton is now 1-0 on the season.

The teams went back-and-forth to start the game, as Hopkins struck first with senior Mary Key's (Stevensville, MD/St. Mary's) ninth goal of the season. With the game tied at 3-3 with 17:57 to play in the first half, the Blue Jays got back-to-back goals from freshman Sam Schrum (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's) and junior Kirby Houck (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) to take a 5-3 lead. Ashley Amo and Katie Lewis-Lamonica sandwiched goals around a strike by Key and it was 6-5 Hopkins heading into the half.

Lewis-Lamonica struck just 1:25 into the second to knot the score at 6-6. The Tigers then took their first lead of the game when Kathleen Miller scored at 5:10. Schrum and senior Alex Nolan (Baltimore, MD/Roland Park) then scored just 56 seconds apart to give Hopkins back an 8-7 lead. Miller came right back for the Tigers, with her second of the day, tying the game at 8-8.

Junior Kadie Stamper (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) scored off a free-position shot with 11:23 to play, giving a one-goal lead back to the Blue Jays. But McGarvie sent the game to overtime with her second goal of the afternoon. Hopkins went ahead 10-9 in the first three-minute overtime when Stamper scored just 17 seconds after the center draw. Princeton then had the ball at the end of that period, but the Tigers could not get a shot off before the horn sounded and the teams switched ends of the field.

Lewis-Lamonica netted the hat trick with 23 seconds to play in the second three-minute overtime tying the game at 10-10 and sending the game into sudden victory overtime. The Blue Jays also had a golden opportunity to win the game early in the sudden victory period. But Princeton backup goalie Kaitlyn Perrelle stopped a point-blank free-position opportunity by Key 18 seconds into the period to give the Tigers the ball. McGarvie then scored the game-winner with just 37 seconds remaining.

Key had a hand in Hopkins first eight goals, finishing with three goals and five assists. Stamper, Schrum and Nolan all had two goals apiece with one for Houck. Sophomore goalie Amelia Harris (Clifton, VA/J.W. Robinson) finished with eight saves for the Blue Jays. McGarvie and Lewis-Lamonice led the Tigers with three goals apiece. Colleen O'Boyle finished with four saves in 48:37 minutes of play. Perrelle posted three saves in 19:46 minutes.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 6 when Mount St. Mary's visits Homewood Field. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
