BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team wins fourth straight Centennial Conference match at home, defeating Haverford 2-1 in less than two minutes of overtime. Blue Jays remain unbeaten at home in 12 contests, dating back to October 6, 2007. With the win, head coach Leo Weil notched his 199th career victory at Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays improve to 8-0-3 (4-0), while the Fords fall to 3-7-0. (0-3 CC)
Freshman Erica Suter (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) scored two for Hopkins to lift the Blue Jays over the Fords. Suter recorded her first goal in the fourth minute to put Hopkins up, 1-0 in the first half. The goal came off of a corner kick by
Haverford answered back in the 12th minute with a shot, deflecting off the hands of Hopkins goalkeeper Karen Guszkowski, tying it at 1-1.
Neither team was able to capitalize in the second half, sending the match to overtime.
Suter scored her second goal of the game and sixth goal of the season at 1:26 in the overtime period. Junior Natalie Held (Potomac, MD/Churchill) gave Suter a lead pass, which she was able to convert, beating the Haverford goalkeeper on a breakaway. The golden goal ended the overtime period to give Hopkins a 2-1 victory.
The Blue Jays return to action on October 11, traveling to Gettysburg. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
