Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins and Princeton went back-and-forth for 54 minutes until, when the Tigers scored their second unanswered to take a two-goal lead with under six minutes to play. That lead would stand as #7 Princeton topped #14 Johns Hopkins 7-5 at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon.

Princeton struck first on a goal by Holly McGarvie just 2:14 in, the first of her four on the day. But the Blue Jays answered when senior Kirby Houck (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) dodged the right side of the cage and scored on a low shot. Christine Casaceli gave the Tigers back the lead on a free position goal at 8:49, it didn't last long however. Freshman Brianna Cronin (Arlington, MA/Arlington) scored her team-best fifth goal of the season less than two minutes later to knot the score at 2-2.

Katie Rogers won the draw for the Tigers and McGarvie drove right down the middle and scored to make it 3-2 Princeton. It would take nearly eight minutes, but Hopkins found the equalizer, thanks to its defense. Sophomore Kim Dubansky (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) forced a turnover in the defensive end and the Blue Jays cleared. Senior Katie Dumais (Lutherville, MD/Maryvale) took the ball at midfield and raced to the cage. She dodged from right to left and scored as she was knocked to the ground. It is just the second career goal for the defender.

Just 51 seconds later, Katie Lewis-Lamonica retook the lead for Princeton on a low shot to the right corner. Once again, Hopkins answered, this time it was Dubansky with the equalizer with just 3:44 to play. But McGarvie would have the final say of the half, giving the Tigers a 5-4 lead with 1:50 to go in the half. Hopkins had a chance to tie it before the break, getting a turnover with 50 seconds on the clock, but Princeton's defense did not allow the Blue Jays to get a shot off.

It took until 10:45 into the second half, but Hopkins found the cage and knotted the score at 5-5. Senior Kadie Stamper (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) took a pass from sophomore Sam Schrum (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's), spun around her defender and scored her fourth of the season. The Tigers answered just 83 seconds later on a free position goal from Kristin Schwab. With less than nine minutes to play, Hopkins forced turnovers on back-to-back clear attempts by Princeton but could not capitalize. Princeton would then go ahead by two at 7-5 on McGarvie's fourth of the day with just 5:25 to play.

Freshman Julianne Wisner (Parkton, MD/Notre Dame Prep) made three saves in the cage for Hopkins. Junior Jess Buicko (Altamont, NY/Hotchkiss) made her debut in goal with 5:25 to play and finished with one save. Kaitlyn Perrelle made six saves in the cage for Princeton.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 7 when #9 Georgetown visits Homewood Field. Game time is set for 4:00 pm. ESPNU will televise the game live.
