BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Evan Kleinberg (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) scored in the 23rd minute and the Johns Hopkins defense shut down Penn State Altoona for a 1-0 win in the consolation game of the Blue Jay Invitational. It was head coach Craig Appleby's first win at the helm of the Blue Jay program.
The Blue Jays got all the offense they would need in the 23rd minute when Kleinberg connected with freshman Corey Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prep). Adams played a long ball down the right side to Kleinberg, who fired home a hard shot from the top of the box for the Blue Jays only goal of the game.
Junior Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) made two saves to earn his first career shutout for Hopkins, while Marc Zajac finished with eight saves for Penn State Altoona.
Montclair State defeated Buffalo State 2-0 to win the Blue Jay Invitational in the second game of the afternoon. Montclair's Sean Pauls was named the tournament's most valuable player.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 3 when St. Mary's visits historic Homewood Field. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm.
