BRYN MAWR, PA - The Johns Hopkins field hockey team scored five goals in each half and cruised to a 10-0 victory against Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play. The Blue Jays improve to 10-5 (7-1 CC) with the win, while the Owls drop to 0-12 (0-9 CC).
Sophomore Sam Stuek started the scoring barrage in the early stages of the game, scoring her second goal of the season in the 9th minute to give Hopkins a 1-0 edge. Junior Carly Bianco tallied her team-leading 11th goal of the season just under three minutes later off a feed from senior Lindsay McKenna.
Hopkins took a 3-0 lead in the 16th minute when sophomore Liane Tellier notched her second goal of the season. In the 19th minute, senior Sarah Jacobs fed junior Annie Shepard for the Blue Jays fourth goal in the first 20 minutes of the game. Sophomore Meghan Kellett rounded out the first half scoring for Johns Hopkins, recording her fourth goal of the year in the 30th minute off a pass from Tellier.
JHU wasted no time getting on the board in the second half, as McKenna gave the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead off a pass from senior Jennifer Motylinski just under two minutes into the second stanza. Senior Ariana Branchini gave JHU a seven goal lead in the 44th minute, unassisted.
Freshman Shelby Graham notched her first career goal in the 65th minute off a feed from classmate Sarah Henderson. Freshman Storm Kodde recorded the first goal of her career just 18 seconds later to give Johns Hopkins a 9-0 advantage. Freshman Dorothy Kim rounded out the Blue Jay scoring with her first career goal in the 69th minute.
Junior Kim Stein played the first 19:48 at goalkeeper for Hopkins and face no shots on goal before sophomore Elizabeth Peijnenburg played the final 50:12 and recorded two saves. Faith Westdorp played the first 43:19 between the pipes and notched 13 saves for Bryn Mawr, with Elizabeth Toft taking over for the final 26:41 and totaling 10 saves.
Hopkins travel to Westminster, MD on Wednesday, October 27 to square off against McDaniel at 7 pm.
