Towson & College Park, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team opened their 2010 outdoor season by competing at the Towson and Maryland Invitationals. The team was split into two groups to compete in the two different locations.
Highlights at Towson:
Freshmen Emily Kashka and Chery Yeung finished second and third in the pole vault with heights of 2.72m each.
Freshman Alana Merkow finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.77m while senior Krystina Laucik finished sixth with a distance of 11.09m.
The Blue Jays took the sixth through eighth spots in the discus, has sophomore Stephanie Amalfe had a throw of 32.01m, Merkow had a throw of 31.86m, and Laucik had a throw of 30.44m.
Sophomore Cassie Cummings finished sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:21.35.
Junior Anita Mikkilineni placed sixth in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:08.72.
Highlights at Maryland:
Senior Paula Osborn finished eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.35.
Sophomore Cecillia Furlong finished second in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:28.92 with senior Mary O'Grady finished fourth with a time of 11:48.83.
The Blue Jays return to action on April 2 at the Duke Invitational.
