Erika Ezumba have been named the Centennial Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week following strong performances at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational. The honor marks the first conference recognition of the season for both Alvarez and Ezumba.
Alvarez delivered the Blue Jays' lone event win of the weekend. She paced a field made up entirely of Division I competition in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a personal-best time of 11:01.73. Her mark ranks sixth in Division III this season and 10
th in program history.
Ezumba followed with a stellar performance, breaking both the school and conference records in the hammer throw while also setting a new school record in the shot put.
She opened the meet with a record-setting mark in the hammer throw, launching 54.09 meters to place fifth overall. The throw not only established new school and conference records, but also ranks third in Division III this season.
Ezumba followed with another strong showing in the shot put, recording a personal-best throw of 13.65 meters to finish fifth overall. That mark set a new school record, ranks eighth in Division III this season and stands fourth in conference history.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, April 10, when the Blue Jays split their squad between the Duke Invitational in Durham, NC, the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, PA, hosted by Bucknell, and the Gallaudet Bison Classic in Washington, D.C.
