ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team competed at the Navy Outdoor Invitational on Saturday at the Naval Academy, recording 36 top-10 finishes across 19 events while posting several marks that rank among the best in program history and Division III this season. The Blue Jays also captured two event titles in the 5,000 meters and 4x400-meter relay.
Hopkins dominated the 5,000 meters with six top-10 finishes, highlighted by an individual title from
Sydney Shock. The sophomore won the event in 17:12.55, the fifth-fastest time in the nation this season.
Natalie Boquist followed in third (17:16.76, ninth nationally), while
Evangeline Dunckley placed fifth (17:54.80, 39
th nationally),
Ainsley Edwards finished sixth (17:59.11, 44
th nationally) and
Rachel Allison took ninth (19:20.60).
Reese Coughlin rounded out the group with a 10
th-place finish in 19:48.26.
The Blue Jays' second event win came in the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of
Lianne Saussy,
Lorna Arcese,
Ani Wedemeyer and
Gabrielle Moore claimed first place with a time of 3:52.44. That mark ranks ninth in program history and is the second-fastest in Division III this season. Two additional Hopkins squads also placed in the top 10, as
Madison Moore,
Leah Valentine,
Ava Zimmerman and
Hanna Bruno finished fifth (4:02.49, 16
th nationally) and
Kayla Ritzman,
Chloe Zhang,
Claudia Ouimet and
Jaclyn Donoho placed ninth (4:10.14, 37
th nationally).
In the 800 meters, Hopkins recorded three top-10 finishes. Wedemeyer led the group with a third-place finish in 2:11.01, the fifth-fastest time in program history and third-fastest nationally.
Diana Valentini followed in fourth (2:13.00), a mark that ranks sixth all-time at Hopkins and 10
th nationally, while Arcese placed eighth in 2:17.77 (31
st nationally).
The Blue Jays also posted strong results in the 4x100-meter relay, with two teams finishing in the top 10.
Chloe Zhang,
Ellie Lewis,
Mirra Klimov and
Anna Zinsser placed third in 48.48, which ranks eighth in program history and 14
th nationally.
Rhianna LaBar, Saussy, Valentine and
Ryan Bigelow followed in sixth (51.64, 78
th nationally).
In the 1,500 meters,
Carter Brotherton led a trio of top-10 finishers, placing sixth in 4:41.86 (24
th nationally).
Lena Cakulev finished seventh (4:50.02, 67
th nationally) and
Alexa Christensen took 10
th (5:03.61).
Maya Eisenberg and
Ia Reistad added top-10 finishes in the steeplechase, placing seventh and ninth, respectively. Eisenberg clocked an 11:23.00 (17
th nationally), while Reistad finished in 11:24.82 (20
th nationally).
Saussy and
Gabrielle Moore also contributed top-10 performances in the 400-meter hurdles. Saussy placed third in 1:05.23 (16
th nationally), while Moore finished 10
th in 1:08.67 (70
th nationally).
In the sprints, Lewis placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.50 (36
th nationally), while Zinsser finished eighth in 26.32. Klimov added a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters (12.20, 16
th nationally) and Bigelow placed seventh in the 400 meters (1:02.77). Ouimet also earned a top-10 finish in the 100-meter hurdles, placing eighth in 15:28 (29
th nationally).
In the field events,
Erika Ezumba and
Phoebe Williams led the way in the hammer throw with fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Ezumba recorded a 50.09-meter throw (ninth nationally), while Williams posted a 43.98-meter mark (65
th nationally). Ezumba also placed fifth in the shot put (12.21m, 31
st nationally), while
Kellen Ievers finished eighth (10.93m). In the discus, Ievers placed seventh (35.18m, 97
th nationally) and Williams finished ninth (33.77m).
Hopkins added two more top-10 finishes in the long jump, as Zhang placed fourth with a leap of 5.32 meters (37
th nationally) and Ouimet finished seventh at 5.26 meters (52
nd nationally).
Clarissa Newman cleared 3.61 meters in the pole vault to place eighth (ninth nationally), while Donoho added a sixth-place finish in the high jump (1.47m) to round out the Blue Jays' top performances.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, April 3, at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
