Ezumba Wins National Title, Hopkins Third at NCAA Championships

Blue Jays Tie for Best Finish in Program History

LA CROSSE, WI – Johns Hopkins senior Erika Ezumba capped her collegiate career in historic fashion Saturday, becoming the first hammer throw national champion in program history to lead the Blue Jays to a third-place finish at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse.

Johns Hopkins totaled 38 points to tie the highest finish in program history at the outdoor national championships. Host Wisconsin-La Crosse claimed the national title with 53 points, while WashU finished runner-up with 42. The Blue Jays' third-place finish marks the third time in program history they have placed third nationally.

Ezumba headlined the final day of competition with a dominant performance in the hammer throw. The senior unleashed a personal-best mark of 60.11 meters to capture the national title while breaking both the Johns Hopkins record and the Centennial Conference record. Her throw ranks as the top mark in Division III this season and the 10th-best performance in Division III history. Teammate Phoebe Williams also earned All-America honors with a 13th-place finish after recording a throw of 52.39 meters.

The Blue Jays also made history in the 4x100-meter relay as Mirra Klimov, Chloe Zhang, Ellie Lewis and Dominique Thomas continued their remarkable postseason run. The quartet clocked a blistering 45.79 to finish as national runners-up, shattering both the school and conference records. Their time ranks seventh all-time in Division III history. The performance marked the first national runner-up finish and first All-America honor in the event in program history.

Hopkins added two more All-America performances in the 1,500 meters behind Mackenzie Setton and Adriana Catalano. Setton placed sixth with a personal-best time of 4:22.09, the second-fastest mark in program history and third-fastest in Centennial Conference history. Catalano followed with a 12th-place finish in 4:33.14 to earn All-America honors of her own.

Setton later collected her second All-America finish of the meet in the 800 meters, placing sixth in 2:08.97. Emma Kothari joined her on the podium with a bronze-medal performance, crossing the line in a personal-best 2:08.30, the fifth-fastest time in school history.

Carter Brotherton closed out the championships with a Second Team All-America finish in the 5,000 meters, posting a time of 16:48.03.

With that, the Blue Jays close the book on a historic 2026 outdoor track & field season that featured a national champion, multiple school and conference records, and a third-place finish on the national stage.
