Johns Hopkins Swims Past St. Mary's, 134-62

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team won its third straight meet on Friday, beating host St. Mary's, 134-62. The Blue Jays won nine straight events before swimming exhibitions in the final two events. Hopkins improves to 4-1 overall, while St. Mary's slips to 4-5.

Hopkins opened the meet by taking the top four spots in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of freshmen Joe Acquaviva, Anthony Lordi and David Woodford and sophomore Tyler Woods won the relay with a time of 1:37.11. Sophomores Nick Schmidt and Jason Ho, with freshman Ben Tillar and junior Dan Raynard finished in second in 1:38.99. Coming in third was the team of sophomore Carter Gisriel and juniors Markus Kowalsky, Eddy Zandee and Chris Price in 1:41.57. And in fourth was senior Chris Razavi, junior Patrick Lynch and freshmen Christian Dias and Brandon Moy with a time of 1:44.55.

Freshman Will Kimball then won the 1000 Free as he touched in 10:03.87. Woodford followed in third in 10:14.47 and sophomore Alec Contag took fourth in 10:15.64. In the 200 Free, Hopkins picked up 15 points with first, second and fourth place finishes. Freshman Theo Leclere won with a career-best time of 1:45.46, beating sophomore Dylan Coggin who clocked in at 1:49.31. Dias took fourth in 1:55.46. Gisriel picked up a win in the 50 Free, touching in 21.99. While Moy took third (22.94), followed by junior Stephen Niemiec and freshman Will Kimball tied for fourth in 23.00.

Hopkins followed that with a dominating performance in the 200 IM, sweeping the top four spots. Junior Tim Nam won the event in 1:59.94, followed by Ho (2:00.85), Lynch (2:03.40) and Kowalsky (2:03.59). The 100 Fly was more of the same as the Blue Jays went one-two-three to pick up 16 points. Lordi was the top finisher for Hopkins, taking first with a career-best time of 52.13. Tillar took second in 54.40, followed by Coggin in third in 54.80.

The 100 Free saw four Blue Jays in the top four spots, with Schmidt leading the way. He clocked in at 47.83 to win the event. Leclere took second (48.25), followed by Niemiec (50.23) and freshman Sean Glass (51.15). Raynard followed with a win in the 100 Back, touching in 54.95. Freshman Tyler Woods took second with a time of 55.69. Acquaviva then won the 500 Free with a time of 4:56.50, while Lynch took third in 5:01.98. Hopkins swam exhibitions for the final two events - the 100 Breast and the 200 Free Relay.

Hopkins to action in a week, hosting Division I Towson on Friday, January 28. The first event is slated to begin at 1:00 pm in the Newton White Athletic Center.
